ABSTRACT: The main objective of this work was to propose touristic geological routes in the area of Puerta de Corral Quemado, Belen Department, province of Catamarca, in order to understand the geological history and the paleontological value of the place, contributing to enhance the geological heritage. The methodology included the compilation and critical revision of existing data, the elaboration of geological mapping using the satellite image letter 2767 – III of the National Geographic Institute and satellite image captures from Google Earth, by adapting the technical terminology to human ordinary language and using the ARC-GIS program, version 10.3. In this sense, field survey, sampling and description of landscape units according to their geological and landscape characteristics were performed. Touristic routes were selected based on route accessibility, visual impact of the landscape associated to conspicuous geological features and semi-structured surveys to the inhabitants, among other criteria. Three circuits were proposed: Puerto Viejo, Los Colorados and Urban Center, fusing the geological knowledge of the place together with everyday language, contributing to the landscape interpretation from a geological point of view and the understanding of what happened millions of years ago in this place.
