RESUMEN: El objetivo principal del trabajo fue confeccionar una Carta de uso actual del suelo de San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca, Dpto. Capital, ,Provincia de Catamarca, a escala 1:100.000, efectuándose una zonificación por áreas, que pueda servir como diagnóstico de la situación actual para estudios de ordenamiento territorial.
La zona de estudio limita hacia el este con el Río del Valle, al sur con el Río Tala -Ongolí, al oeste con el meridiano 65º 50’00’’ oeste y al norte con el paralelo 28º 24’ 00’’ sur. Ocupa una superficie de 128,73 km2
Se analizaron los antecedentes de la zona de estudio. Se realizó interpretación de la imagen satelital disponible en el sitio web Google Earth 2015, diferenciando tipos de uso actual del suelo. La cartografía obtenida, controlada y ajustada en campo, se procesó con el Software ArcGIS, versión 10.3, para su edición final.
Se ha zonificado en ocho áreas clasificadas en: natural, urbano, a urbanizar, agrícola, industrial, recreativo, minero y de servicio urbano. El 42% del área está representada por área natural y el resto posee algún tipo de uso. El mayor porcentaje de uso del suelo corresponde al área urbana (32,8 %), seguido por área a urbanizar (13,1%) y área agrícola (7,9%).

ABSTRACT: The main objective was to make a map of current land use, of San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca, Department Capital, Catamarca, scale 1:. 100,000, taking place zoning for areas that can serve as a diagnosis of the current situation for studies of land use planning.
The study area borders to the east with the River Valley, south to the Río Tala -Ongolí, west to the meridian 65 ° 50′ 00 » west and north of the parallel 28º 24 ‘ 00’ ‘south. It occupies an area of 128.73 km2
The history of the study area were analyzed critically, interpretation of satellite image was made available on the website Google Earth 2015, differentiating between types of current land use. Mapping obtained, monitored and adjusted in the field, it was processed with ArcGIS software, version 10.3, for final editing.
It has been zoned into eight areas; natural, urban, to urbanize, agricultural, industrial, recreational, mining and urban service. 42% of the area is represented by natural area and the rest it has some kind of use. The highest percentage of land use corresponds to urban areas (32.8%), followed by area to urbanize (13.1%) and agricultural area (7.9%).
